What is a Chemo-Sabe

WHEN PEOPLE ASK YOU "HOW CAN I HELP?"
YOU CAN ANSWER "BY SINGING WITH ME"

My Chemo-Sabe

This short video was taken when the chemotherapy drugs arrived and just prior to hooking them up. This is one of the more solemn and beautiful ceremonies that I particularly loved.

My Chemo-Sabe left me feeling "Safely surrounded by love." Once the drugs had been blessed, I was hooked up and they continued to sing softly to me as I went within.

What is a Chemo-Sabe

A Chemo-Sabe can be anyone who wants to support you and who you enjoy. It can be family, friends, members of your congregation or members of your dance class!  Their role is to sing with you as you prepare for the administration of the chemo drugs as well as during the treatment. Depending how you feel, you can either join them or close your eyes and surrender to the music. You can simply allow yourself to receive.

And it's so easy! You just play (on your computer or phone) the music that is provided and SING ALONG! The lyrics are also provided so you can print out enough copies for everyone participating to have the words. Some of the "songs" are instrumental (crystal bowls), so for those, eyes can be closed for a prayerful few moments if desired. Take your charging cable with you!

However, if you don't have a private room or prefer to do something different, your Chemo-Sabe can also meet with you at times that work for everyone involved. Singing with you for an hour before your scheduled time could possibly be done in the hospital chapel or even, weather permitting, in a lovely location nearby outdoors.

1. HOW MANY PEOPLE DO I NEED?

You can have as many or as few as you like. If you have a private room, you'll need to be clear on how many people the treatment facility allows in the room. I had several regulars and each week they volunteered until we reached a total of 4. Some weeks it was less. If your best friend or spouse (or both) would like to help in this way, that would be great. It's good to have some backup so that if members become indisposed, you have someone to call. And if no one can make it for a session, you can use that as an extra special time to sing aloud to yourself! It's just the Universe recognizing that you may need some "you time."

I will tell you that having 3-4 people singing at the same time is angelic and when voices blend, it takes all the pressure off those who feel a little unsure about their voices! These are the voices that sometimes blend the most beautifully

2. WE CAN'T SING!

I hear this all the time! And in my entire career, it has never proved to be true. You will receive 1-3 CD's of music written expressly for this purpose. The music will include the lyrics. So you will simply be "singing along."

One option of the Chants to Heal Support System includes having three vocal coaching sessions WITH your Chemo-Sabe so that you and they can learn to sing to the music easily and comfortably - and sound great doing it! You will never look at singing the same. And you won't want to stop because it feels SO good!
If you can laugh, you can SING!

What People Are Saying

“Both the Buddha and Martin Luther King spoke of love being the only thing that can heal hate. And Lauren "loves" those cancer cells to death! While her process is, of necessity, a self-centered one, it is not selfish. Lauren shares her healing music and visual aids with others in the infusion center. ... Those of us in her Chemo-Sabe often sing to others who are undergoing treatment in the center. ... It is our hope that our example will prod changes in the treatment milieu, to allow for the inclusion of more than a medical model of healing.”
